Get it checked before summer
Car air-con systems lose a little refrigerant every year, and small leaks get worse over time. A system that was only slightly weak in spring can stop working properly on the first 40-degree day, when every workshop in town is busy.
A check in late winter or spring finds leaks and low gas early. Newer cars use R1234yf refrigerant instead of the older R134a, so the right equipment and gas matter. We'll tell you which your car uses.

FAQ
Air conditioning questions
How do I know if my air-con just needs a re-gas?
If it's blowing cool but not cold, low refrigerant is a common cause. But refrigerant only escapes through a leak, so we check for leaks too rather than just topping it up.
Why does my air-con smell?
A musty smell usually comes from mould or bacteria on the evaporator or a dirty cabin filter. A new cabin filter and an evaporator clean usually fixes it.
How often should car air-con be serviced?
Having it checked every year or two, ideally before summer, catches small problems before they become compressor repairs.
